Waterproofing is the ability of a membrane to prevent moisture under hydrostatic pressure to penetrate a surface. Hydrostatic pressure is the primary cause of basement seepage as water builds up around the exterior of the walls. As this pressure builds, ground water can fill the hollow cells in concrete block foundations and seep through cold joints of poured concrete walls. If downspouts don’t function properly during heavy rain, hydrostatic head can build quickly around the perimeter of the house.
