H2O WATERPROOFING FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Waterproofing?

Waterproofing is the process of making an object or structure waterproof or water-resistant so that it remains relatively unaffected by water or resisting the ingress of water under specified conditions. Such items may be used in wet environments or underwater to specified depths. Wikipedia The H2O Waterproofing system is designed and proven to provide superior waterproofing protection.

  • What are the signs of a basement or crawlspace leak?

Leaking basements and crawlspaces offer a few obvious indicators, like puddle of water on the floor or water trickling down the walls. However, there are other ways water damage can present itself as well:

    • A rapid increase in mold or mildew
    • Musty odors
    • Damp spots on the walls or floor
    • A white, chalky substance on the walls
    • Cracks in the walls or floor
    • Peeling paint or bubbling wallpaper
    • Rust on appliances or other metal objects
    • Dry rot
    • Warped paneling or wood

  • Is your waterproofing expensive?

No, you will find that our pricing compares very favorable with other waterproofing companies in Alabama. In fact, we guarantee you will receive Great service, Quality workmanship for a great rate plus you will have peace of mind knowing that your home is protected.

  • Do you offer financing?

Yes, we do. Please visit our website www.h2owaterproofing.com and click on our financing link.

  • Do you charge for an inspection and estimate?

No, our estimates are Free. We’ll send a highly seasoned H2O advisor to your home or business.

  • Can I get a phone estimate?

Before Covid, absolutely not. However, we live in a Covid world and everyone’s safety is our priority! We can set up a face time call or just we can talk you through a few questions and provide a guestimate. Keep in mind, it’s only a guestimate till the H2O technicians can actually see and measure the site. An actual Estimate will then be provided for approval before any materials or work will be done. Why a guestimate?  Each basement or crawlspace seepage problem and repair need to be evaluated differently.  You might just have a crack in the wall, but it’s really not that simple.  What caused the crack?  Where is the water coming from?  Is it a structural problem?  Are there other cracks?  What’s the best method of repair?  Is the quote firm?  These types of questions really can’t be addressed well over the phone.

  • Does the estimate address all my concerns?

Once our Highly trained H2O Advisors arrives at your house, they will do a thorough interior and exterior examination of your basement or crawlspace.  They will ask questions – a lot of questions – to get a better understanding of your problem.  Below are a few examples:

    • What is the age of your home?
    • How long have you lived here?
    • Is it a recurring basement seepage problem or was this the first time?
    • Does your basement only leak with heavy downpours?

Answers to these questions help to tell a story. This is also the time for you to get all your concerns addressed. We are here to provide you a solution to your waterproofing or foundation needs.

  • How long will the estimate take?

Industry average is roughly forty-five minutes to an hour.  A more complex problem or larger home can take slightly longer.  Bring on your questions, were here for you. Our goal is to address all your concerns.

  • When can I expect my estimate?

Our H2O advisors can provide you with a professional estimate during your appointment or same day via email.

  • How should I pay for the work once I’m ready to move forward?

At H2O Waterproofing, we require a 20% deposit to book appointment and purchase material. The balance will be paid to the On site H2O Foreman at the completion of the job.

  • How long will it take to get the work done?

That depends on the size and scope of the project.  Typically, most basement / crawlspace waterproofing will be complete within 1 – 2 days. If mold remediation or foundation repair is needed, a 3rd and possible 4th day could be added.

  • Why should I fix my basement?

There are several reasons. Some of the more common reasons are: a healthier living environment, increased living and storage space, avoiding further damage to your belongings, increased property value and peace of mind.

  • How do I pay for the work?

Cash, personal checks, bank checks, money orders and credit cards (Visa, Master Card, and Discover) are all accepted forms of payment. We also offer financing programs. We require a twenty percent deposit with a signed order. The balance is to be paid to our installation team upon completion of the work.

  • What is the average basement / crawlspace repair cost?

It really depends on what work is being done. All estimates are free of charge for this very reason. Our H2O Advisors are trained to recommend the most practical and economical solution for your particular situation. In general, smaller jobs may only be a few hundred dollars; larger scale jobs can be several thousand dollars.

  • Do you offer any Maintenance programs?

Yes, we do have an H2O “Peace of Mind” maintenance program. Details are listed on our website www.h2owaterproofing.com.

  • Will I have to wait around all day for your crew to show up?

No. After you provide us with your information, our Customer Service Representative will generally provide you with a two-hour time frame for your estimate. If the property is vacant and you need to meet us at the site, we can provide you with a smaller time frame. You can also request for our H2O Advisor to notify you via phone prior to their arrival.

Should you decide to authorize H2O to proceed with the work, our Scheduling Department will contact you to arrange a convenient installation date. We pride ourselves with being on time, our appointments and installations run 97% as scheduled.

  • I’m going to sell my house. Should I fix the problem before I sell?

Absolutely. Leaving the problem for the new owner to fix will typically result in a much lower sales price, as the buyer will generally overstate the cost to fix the problem. Failure to inform the buyer of any problems can also result in a lawsuit.

  • Can I fix one area?

In most cases, the answer is yes, but it really depends on your particular problem. Unlike some waterproofing contractors, we do not push you into waterproofing the entire basement if it is not necessary (unless you prefer it). H2O is a highly referred waterproofing contractor and we offer several solutions, both from the interior and exterior, as opposed to a one-size-fits-all system.

Our H2O Advisors are trained to recommend the most practical and economical solution. They average over ten years of experience and will help steer in you in the right direction to make an informed and educated decision.

  • Do you do work in crawlspaces?

Yes. If you have dirt or gravel floor inside your crawlspace, we can either encapsulate or install a vapor barrier to reduce moisture. We may also make a recommendation to install a dehumidifier to help reduce humidity.

  • Will you clean out our crawlspace if needed?

Absolutely, if you retain our service. We know that by maintaining a clean crawlspace you will provide less places for mold, critters or bugs to hide.

  • Can I just pick up some material and fix the problem myself?

Most materials found at the local hardware store produce limited results. There are, however, things you can do yourself such as extending your downspouts and cleaning out your gutters on a regular basis which may help to alleviate the problem.

Assuming all options have been exhausted and water is still seeping into your basement or crawlspace, we recommend giving the pros at H2O a call.

Over the past 17+ years of servicing the entire state of Birmingham, we’ve literally had thousands of homeowners and contractors give up and finally call us. One thing for certain, they all tell us that they wished they had called us to begin with and not wasted so much time and money.

  • How do I know if I have structural problems?

At H2O we have a separate, specialized team of advisors trained to identify structural problems. If we find that your foundation warrants repair, we can provide you with a free, no-obligation estimate.

Eric and his team did a great job installing an incredible waterproofing system in an investment property I bought. The house was originally built in 1978 and had cinder blocks where moisture had been slowly accumulating for years. They came and installed their waterproofing system and a pump to pump out any ensuing water from rains and the system works amazingly. No more moisture and no more musty odors. They were very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Their estimate was one of the best as well.

I contacted H2O Waterproofing and spoke with the owner Eric Hamilton. He came out surveyed the problem and gave me an estimate that was better than any of his competitors. He gave me a date as to when they would start and complete the waterproofing of my basement. It took two (2) days to complete it and they did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend his company for waterproofing.
